What is the prostate?

The prostate is a small gland of great importance. The prostate sits at the base of the bladder surrounding the opening of the urinary tract called the urethra. At birth the prostate is about the size of a pea.  It grows until about 20 years of age when it reaches adult size which is about the size of a walnut.
